Debate on the Legality of the Department of Government Efficiency
The Open to Debate Foundation hosted a debate between Harvard Law professor emeritus Laurence Tribe and former U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Michael McConnell on the legality of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Mr. Tribe argued that DOGE was legally problematic due to its function being vague as it wields powers resulting in mass firings of federal workers and the dismantling of programs. Mr. McConnell contended that DOGE did not violate the law, arguing it had no official powers apart from making recommendations within the Trump administration.
