ASU kicks off debate series with discussion on whether U.S. should end birthright citizenship

A new partnership will bring live debates to Arizona State University. The series kicks off Thursday with a debate on whether America should end birthright citizenship.

ASU’s Institute of Politics is partnering with the nonprofit media platform Open to Debate to launch a live debate series called PRO/CONversations.

Arguing against ending birthright citizenship is Attorney General Kris Mayes and the legal director of a labor organization. Arguing for will be a nationally recognized expert on immigration issues and a constitutional scholar.

The initiative was inspired by former Republican Ambassador and Sen. Jeff Flake, who leads the Institute.

In a statement he said the debates “underscores the university’s commitment to showing that respectful and constructive debate still has a place in American public life.”
