Jim Steyer
Jim Steyer is a children’s advocate, civil rights attorney, and the founder of Common SenseMedia, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and impactful voice they need to thrive intoday’s world. Prior to founding Common Sense, he was the founder and president of Children Now, an educational kids’ media company, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and clerked for California Supreme Court Justice Allen Broussard. Steyer has also taught civil rights, civil liberties, and education at Stanford University, where he received the Walter J. Gores Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is the author of “The Other Parent: The Inside Story of the Media’s Effect on Our Children”, “Talking Back to Facebook”, and “Which Side of History: How Technology is Reshaping Democracy and Our Lives.” He frequently appears on national television and radio as a commentator on programs including The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Fresh Air, CNN, Fox News, and 2020. He went to college at Stanford University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and was awarded the Lindsey Peters Award for Outstanding Work in American Government, and received his JD from Stanford Law School.
