Editorial Producer

An award-winning live event, national radio show, podcast, and thriving digital brand, Open to Debate seeks an Editorial Producer.

Open to Debate is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization seeking a goal-oriented and self-directed individual who is inspired by our mission and will want to work with both the production and editorial teams to executive best-in-class discussions among a wide array of thought leaders.

The Editorial Producer for Open to Debate will work closely with all members of the editorial team and will be responsible for researching, securing, and pre-interviewing high-profile guests who will participate in the weekly debate series.  The ideal candidate will possess a discerning and agile intellect and will make stellar contributions to the debate and speaker ideation process. The Editorial Producer is a voracious consumer of news who will have a vision for the curation of debates among prominent public voices who hold opposing views on a given topic.

The next Open to Debate Editorial Producer is an individual who will thrive in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment and who is collaborative by nature.  This individual will have experience and interest in driving program growth through social channels, video, and audio.

The Editorial Producer will report to the Chief Content Officer.

 

Responsibilities for the Editorial Producer include: 

  • Ideating compelling debate topics, precise motion language and guest ideas.
  • Securing and pre-interviewing thought leaders who take opposing views on a given topic.
  • Providing thorough research and pre-interview notes to the series moderator and to the full team.
  • Expert assistance with the executive summaries prepared and provided to internal and external audiences.
  • Crafting scripts and run of shows for episode tapings.
  • Keeping track of the clock and communicating to our host during recordings
  • Researching issues to support suggested topics
  • Running down direct contact information for esteemed guests

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior relevant work experience with a required minimum of 5 years of experience as a producer. Experience in journalism and media a huge plus.
  • Interest in public policy issues is essential. You’re a sophisticated news consumer, interested in political science, and are intellectually curious about both sides of the issues.
  • Prior experience in live recordings, or live event production.
  • You’re a great thinker and can bring new ideas to the table.
  • You’re comfortable communicating and interfacing with all types of people at all varying levels.
  • You have a strong understanding of the social/ podcast / radio / streaming landscape.
  • You have an eye for creating efficiencies within the production process.
  • You understand what makes an excellent audio, visual and social story.
  • You have experience with small organizations and are comfortable leading collaboration amongst external teams.
  • You are ambitious, creative, and have a sense of humor.
