Bella DePaulo

Bella DePaulo is a social psychologist described by The Atlantic as “America’s foremost thinker and writer on the single experience,” and an Academic Affiliate in the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In her writings, which include the books “Singled Out” and “Single at Heart,” DePaulo draws from social science data to challenge the stereotypes of people who are single and explain why so many single people are flourishing. She has written the “Living Single” blog for Psychology Today since 2008 and has been published by the New York Times, the Washington PostTime magazine, The Atlantic, and many other outlets. DePaulo has appeared on NPR, The Today ShowCNN American MorningCBS This Morning, and Good Morning America. For her work, DePaulo is the recipient of several honors and awards, such as the James McKeen Cattell Award and the Research Scientist Development Award, and has served in various leadership positions in professional organizations. She has a B.A. from Vassar College and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
