Sally Satel

Dr. Sally Satel, M.D. is a practicing psychiatrist, lecturer at the Yale University School of Medicine, and senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where she examines mental health policy and political trends in medicine. She was previously an assistant professor of psychiatry at Yale and a Robert Wood Johnson policy fellow with the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee. She received a kidney transplant after being diagnosed with chronic kidney failure, which inspired her passion to ensure everyone has the chance to donate if they desire to. Her publications include “PC, M.D.: How Political Correctness Is Corrupting Medicine,” “The Health Disparities Myth,” “When Altruism Isn’t Enough: The Case for Compensating Organ Donors,” and “One Nation Under Therapy” (coauthored with Christina Hoff Sommers). Her book “Brainwashed: The Seductive Appeal of Mindless Neuroscience” (co-authored with Scott Lilienfeld) was a 2014 finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in Science. She has testified before Congress on veterans’ issues, mental health policy, drug courts, and health disparities. She has written widely in academic journals on topics in psychiatry and medicine and has published articles on cultural aspects of medicine and science in numerous magazines and journals, including The New Republic, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times.
