Julia Nordgren

Dr. Julia Nordgren has the unique distinction of being a physician, trained chef, and author. She is a an attending physician at the Stanford Weight Clinic, which specializes in comprehensive care for children and adolescents with obesity. She is also the Lipid and Weight Management Specialist at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, where she sees patients with cholesterol disorders, prediabetes, and weight concerns. Dr. Nordgren is a graduate of Bates College, Dartmouth Medical School, and the Culinary Institute of America. She is one of the first of a growing group of dually trained physician-chefs who understand the deep connection between great food and great health. She combines her passions not only in her medical practice, but in teaching kitchens as well. She is the co-founder of the Culinary Medicine course at Stanford, called “The Doctor is In…The Kitchen.”  She speaks regularly at the Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives conference, at Physician Wellness Retreats, and teaches at wellness retreats worldwide. She is also an active member of Pegasus, the physician writers’ group at Stanford. Her acclaimed cookbook, “The New Family Table,” was published in 2019.
